Police said the men forced them to open a safe, containing jewellery, watches and a large quantity of cash.

They were then tied up in a bathroom, but managed to escape after the men left.

The men are described as all being white, wearing masks and gloves. They spoke in broken English and to each other in a language that the homeowners were not able to identify.

Police said the couple were not injured.
