A MAN WHO died of his injuries after an alleged pre-planned fight in woods in Hailsham has been named as Darren Croxton.

Mr Croxton, aged 25, died of injuries after the incident near Bramble Drive, Hailsham, at 4.30pm yesterday, Sunday January 22.

Police said he was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital where he sadly died at 7.20am this morning (January 23).

Detective Chief Inspector Jeff Riley from Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said: “This is a tragic incident and made all the more sad by the fact that the deceased was in the prime of his life and leaves behind a young child who will now grow up without her father.

“I would like to thank the local Hailsham community for their patience and support whilst the investigation gets under way but would like to make a further appeal for anyone with information that could help police with their inquiries to please come forward.”

Ten people are in custody in connection with the incident. They include seven young people under the age of 18 arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police confirmed that another three people, all in their 20s, have been arrested for violent disorder.

DCI Riley added: “Five arrests were made a short time after the incident with a further two more today and we are now in the process of interviewing all ten suspects.

“A police cordon will remain at the scene for a few more days and I would urge residents to please talk to their local officers if they have any concerns or worries.”

A post-mortem will be taking place this evening to establish the cause of death.
