A Hastings man is to appear in court charged with thefts from an East Sussex village post office where he was working part-time, Sussex Police have confirmed.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said Ian Doe, 49, of Woodlands Way, Hastings, has been served with a court summons to appear at Hastings Magistrates Court on December 2, charged with the theft of £970 cash from the post office at Burwash between 2108 and 2019.

Doe was working as a part-time assistant at the combined post office and village shop in the village, for the Post Office Sub-Postmaster who also runs the shop, police said.

The prosecution, authorised by the CPS, follows an investigation by detectives from the East Sussex Investigations Team, police added.
