HM Courts Service: Results list for September 16 to 22, 2020

The following are the latest results contributed by HM Courts Service, for cases sentenced by West Sussex Magistrates’ Court sitting at Worthing and Crawley from September 16 to 22, 2020.

Raymond Thompson, 62, of Cavendish Close, Worthing, was given a four-week concurrent prison sentence and must pay £122 victim surcharge, £85 costs, after admitting driving while disqualified in Langbury Close, Ferring, on April 11, 2020. He was disqualified from driving for 24 months. He also admitted driving without insurance, no separate penalty. He admitted breaching a suspended sentence order and was dealt with for the original offences. Suspended sentences on a total of 26 charges were implemented, resulting in an overall prison sentence of eight weeks. There were 17 charges of driving while disqualified in Worthing, from April 12 to 30, 2017, and nine charges of driving while disqualified in Worthing, from May 1 to 9, 2017.

Piotr Joryn, 36, of Queensbury Mews, Brighton, was fined £120 and must pay £32 victim surcharge, £85 costs, after admitting drug-driving (6ug/l Delta-9-THC) in New Road, Worthing, on September 22, 2019. He was disqualified from driving for 14 months.

Lucie Ellis, 38, of Brooks Lane West, Bognor Regis, was fined £25 and must pay £32 victim surcharge, £50 costs, after admitting stealing clothing worth £14 from Peacocks, Bognor Regis, on January 20, 2020. She was also fined £25 after admitting stealing goods worth £20 from Wilko, Bognor Regis, on January 20, 2020. She admitted breaching a community order and was dealt with for the original offences, receiving a community order with alcohol treatment requirement for assaulting an emergency worker by beating in Rustington on April 29, 2019; damaging the inside of a police van in Rustington on April 29, 2019; stealing two bottles of wine from Tesco Express, Bognor Regis, on April 29, 2019; failing to surrender to custody at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on June 10, 2019; and assault by beating in Chichester on December 24, 2018.

Tahir Javed, 57, of Newland Road, Worthing, was given a community order with Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and must carry out 250 hours’ unpaid work after admitting drug-driving (9.0ug/l Delta-9-THC) on the A23 Handcross on January 3, 2020; and possessing cannabis, a class B drug, in Handcross on January 3, 2020. He must pay £90 victim surcharge, £85 costs, and was disqualified from driving for 48 months.

Christopher Grigson, 46, of West End Way, Lancing, was given a community order with Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and fined £100 after admitting harassment without violence, making contact excessively despite requests not to, between April 24 and 25, 2020. He was given a community order after admitting breaching a non-molestation order by sending WhatsApp messages in Lancing on August 20, 2020. He was also given a restraining order and must pay £95 victim surcharge.

Caan Searle, 29, of Navigation Drive, Yapton, must pay £60 costs after admitting breaching a community order by failing to attend unpaid work on July 12 and 19, 2020. He was dealt with for the original offence, receiving a community order with four-week curfew, electronically monitored, for taking a vehicle without consent and before it was recovered, damage was caused to the vehicle, another vehicle and a wall in Arundel on August 14, 2019.

Prashant Gohil aka Ashley Burgess, 32, of Tupper Gardens, Bognor Regis, was fined £120 and must pay £34 victim surcharge, £85 costs, after admitting drug-driving (9.0ug/l Delta-9-THC) on the A27 Arundel on May 7, 2020. He was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Jemma Squirrell, 28, of Southon View, Western Road, Lancing, was fined £280 and must pay £34 victim surcharge, £85 costs, after admitting drink-driving (83mg in 100ml of breath) in Newland Street Worthing, on July 11, 2020. She was disqualified from driving for 17 months.

Richard Cathery, 48, of St Michael’s Road, Worthing, was fined £334 and must pay £56 victim surcharge, £85 costs, after admitting drink-driving (86mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath) in Montague Street, Worthing, on July 14, 2020. He was disqualified from driving for 18 months. He was fined £223 after admitting resisting a police constable in the execution of her duty in Worthing on July 14, 2020.

Christopher Chuter, 30, of Erica Way, Horsham, was fined £553 and must pay £74 victim surcharge, £85 costs, after admitting drink-driving (66mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath) on the A27 Arundel on July 13, 2020. He was disqualified from driving for 18 months. He was fined £184 after admitting speeding, driving over 70mph on the A27 Arundel on July 13, 2020.

Marion Pope, 70, of Wordsworth Road, Worthing, was given a community order with Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and fined £20 after admitting two charges of assaulting an emergency worker, a police officer, by beating in Colebrook Court, Worthing, on July 10, 2020. She must pay a total of £100 compensation, £95 victim surcharge, £85 costs.

Mark Smart, 52, of Southfield Road, Worthing, was given a community order and must carry out 100 hours’ unpaid work after admitting using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour with intent, causing harassment, alarm or distress, racially aggravated, in Worthing on July 31, 2019. He must pay £100 compensation, £90 victim surcharge, £85 costs.

Samuel Tapscott, 27, of Manor Road, Worthing, was given a community order and must carry out 50 hours’ unpaid work after admitting possessing an offensive weapon, a tuna can in a sock, at Worthing Pier on July 15, 2020. He must pay £90 victim surcharge, £85 costs.

Pippa Gambling, 43, of Brighton Road, Worthing, was discharged conditionally for 12 months and must pay £437 compensation after admitting destroying a glass door belonging to Worthing Homes in Lancing on October 6, 2019.

Lea Stone, 55, of Hamble Court, Hamble Road, Sompting, was sentenced to six weeks’ detention, suspended for 24 months, and must pay a total of £150 compensation after admitting two charges of assaulting an emergency worker, a police constable, by beating in Lancing on October 6, 2019. He must pay £200 compensation after admitting causing £535 damage to an ambulance in Lancing on December 28, 2019.
