Muhhammed Ahmed, 35, of Ingram Crescent West, Hove, was sentenced at Brighton Magistrates’ Court after he admitted eight charges of burglary, possession of cocaine and breaching a conditional discharge issued in April this year for shoplifting, said Sussex Police.

The court heard that Ahmed broke into various shops, cafes, restaurants and businesses including Flowers Unlimited in Portland Road, on June 11, Billies Cafe in Goldstone Villas on June 16, Harrisons of Hove in Montefiore Road on June 25, the Artista Studio in Waterloo Street, on July 5, Le Nantais Bisto, Church Road on July 7, Viksi Salon, Victoria Terrace on August 13, the Art Shop and Pottery, Western Road, on August 19 and Cafe Ninety in Blatchington Road, Hove, on September 5.

He stole cash, bottles of alcohol, electronic devices and other property from the businesses he broke into as well as damaging their doors and windows to gain access, said police.

Officers said Ahmed also breached a community order which had been issued in October last year for battery, possession of cocaine and failing to surrender to custody last August. He was sentenced concurrently for the breach.

Detective Inspector Ian Still said: “Ahmed carried out a series of burglaries at businesses in Hove over the summer months which impacted on the community in this part of the city.

“We worked hard to investigate these offences along with help from the business community and members of the public and are pleased he is now behind bars.”
