Leslie Brooks, 81, fractured his hip, his elbow and spent weeks in hospital when he tripped whilst attempting to avoid a passing cyclist in West Street in June.

Mr Brooks told the County Times that ‘cyclists dismount’ signage must be increased and improved in the town centre.

He also said he wants to campaign to protect pedestrians to avoid a similar incident to his own.

Mr Brooks’ campaign comes just weeks after the refurbishment of West Street was concluded.

The project was organised by Cllr Helena Croft and saw the street become less cluttered, including the removal of ‘no cycling’ signs.
