'˜Laughing gas' stolen from Crawley Hospital

Police are appealing for witnesses after five canisters of nitrous oxide - also known as laughing gas - were stolen from Crawley Hospital.

Officers were called by a member of the public who saw three people get out of a black Audi A3 and head towards a door at the back of the hospital by Ifield Road just before 1am today (Friday May 6), said police.

Detective Sergeant Karrie Bohanna said: “We would like to speak with anyone else who saw something suspicious in the area during the early hours.

“Nitrous oxide gas - sometimes known as laughing gas - is becoming more and more popular to use as a way of achieving a short term high and although it is not an offence to be in possession of it, this does not mean it is safe to use.

“Anyone considering using this substance in this way should think again. The effect of asphyxia through inhalation could happen on the first occasion it is used or after repeated use.”

Witnesses can email [email protected] or call 101 quoting reference 26 of 06/05.

Alternatively, you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 (http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org/).
