Lewes police begin road checkpoints to crackdown on drivers taking unnecessary trips

The UK was put under lockdown on Monday (Mar 23), with Prime Minister Boris Johnson outlining strict new measures to stop the spread of Covid-19.

He ordered that people are now only to leave their homes for specific and essential reasons.

Lewes Police said: “We’re out across the district today checking everyone is #stayingsafe and following Government guidelines.

“Our officers will be out as usual, explaining these new rules to the public, which are in place to save lives and we hope the public will adhere to them.”
