Littlehampton Traders Partnership (LTP) fundraised for the life-saving equipment to be installed outside Pound Xtra in High Street after somebody died in the town centre several years ago.

But on Wednesday night (February 24), it was stolen, to LTP co-chairman Simon Vickers’ horror.

“It’s unbelievable in this day and age – it’s beyond words,” he said.

“It was there to save anyone’s life who needs it. With the crisis we have got on at the moment in this world, with so many people dying needlessly, for someone to go and put someone else’s life at risk because of this is unbelievable.”

Public access defibrillators can be opened with a specific code to allow rapid treatment of people suffering a cardiac arrest.

They are often installed in town centres and areas where the instant response before emergency services arrive can make a huge difference.

Sussex Police confirmed the theft had been reported and encouraged anyone with information to report online or by calling 101.
