Littlehampton cyclist hospitalised following collision with moped thief

A THIEF trying to escape from police on a stolen moped hospitalised a cyclist when he collided with him in Littlehampton, over the weekend.

The incident happened on Saturday (April 13) in Cornwall Road, at around 11.45am.

The cyclist, a 65-year-old man from Littlehampton, suffered leg injuries and was taken to St Richard’s Hospital, in Chichester, for treatment.

The dark blue moped had been stolen from Rustington on March 24 .

Police had traced it to the Wick estate.

However, the rider managed to elude capture by using a footpath in the estate to escape from officers.

The bike was later found abandoned in Butts Mead, Littlehampton.

The rider of the moped, at the time of the collision, was described as white, aged around 16 or 17 and wearing dark clothing and a bright blue crash helmet.

Police are appealing to anyone who saw the collision or has any information about the identity of the rider to come forward on 101 quoting serial 661 of 13/4.
