Littlehampton drugs farm ‘shock’

Littlehampton’s former mayor has expressed his shock after a large-scale cannabis factory was raided by police – just yards from his office in the town.

Malcolm Belchamber, now a serving town councillor, said he was stunned when police seized an estimated £25,000-worth of cannabis from a room above the Moore Cuts barbershop, in The Arcade. Mr Belchamber, who works at the Leaders estate agents, in High Street – a stone’s throw away from the raided drugs farm – said: “It was a bit of shock when I came in to work in the morning to see a couple of police cars outside The Arcade.”

He added: “To be right on the doorstep of a cannabis factory and not have the slightest clue about it is very shocking. It begs the question of how long it was there.”

Officers seized around 150 cannabis plants during the raid, earlier this month.

On Tuesday, police announced that a 21-year-old man from Angmering had been arrested on suspicion of cannabis cultivation.

He has since been bailed, pending further enquiries, until December 17.
