Ewan Masson, 20, of Halewick Lane, Lancing, pleaded guilty to two charges of assault by beating and to using threatening behaviour. The offences took place at Eastbourne on February 12. He was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £125 in compensation.

Thomas Horan, 33, of Brighton Road, Newhaven, pleaded guilty to two charges of assault by beating. The offences took place at Wetherspoons, Cornfield Road, Eastbourne, on August 27. He was committed to Lewes crown Court for sentencing on December 2, for being in breach of a Crown Court suspended sentence, and released on conditional bail.

Lewis Paterson, 28, of Heron Ridge, Polegate, pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman by beating her. The offence took place at Bexhill on January 10. He also pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to bail at Hastings Magistrates Court on September 2. The court made a community order and fined him £120. Magistrates issued a restraining order.

Paul Thompson, 50, of Alnwick Road, London, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis when required to do so by police under the Road Traffic Act 1988. The offence too place at Eastbourne on August 30. He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for one year, and banned from driving for four years. Magistrates said the sentence was because of previous drink related offences.

David Burnett, 32, of Wakehurst Road, Eastbourne, pleaded guilty to stealing clothing, worth £143, from Sports Direct, at Eastbourne, on March 1. He also pleaded guilty to stealing baby milk, worth £108.50, from Tesco at Seaford, on March 7 and to stealing chocolate bars and crisps, worth £125, from Co-op at Polegate on March 8 and to stealing Jim Beam alcohol, worth £200 from Asda at Hailsham, on the same date. He indicated a plea of guilty to stealing a Sharp television, worth £179, from Tesco at Eastbourne on January 17. He was given a one year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £819.50 in compensation.

Philip McManus. 38, of Bourne Street, Eastbourne, pleaded guilty to stealing condoms worth £29.97 from Kamsons Pharmacy at Eastbourne, on June 9. He pleaded guilty to stealing two bottles of vodka, worth £50, from Marks and Spencer at Eastbourne, on April 26 and to stealing a further two bottles of vodka, worth £50, from Marks and Spencer, at Eastbourne, on April 27. He was given a one year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £104.97 in compensation.

Dean Wells, 37, of Kingston Road, Hampden Park, pleaded guilty to three charges of driving a Ford Transit van without a licence. The offences took place at Swanbarn Road, Hailsham, on July 25, Bayham Road, Hailsham, on July 27, and High Street, Hailsham, on August 2. He was fined £40 for each offence.

November 9:

A 16-year-old Polegate youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to riding a Piaggio scooter on Farmlands Way, Polegate, on July 14, with no licence or insurance. He was fined £50.

A 17-year-old Eastbourne youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to stealing a BMW vehicle from St Leonards, on September 6. He pleaded guilty to failing to stop for police while driving a Suzuki vehicle, on Charles Road, St Leonards, on November 5. He pleaded guilty to driving a Volkswagen Polo dangerously on Hillside Road, Hastings, on October 8 and to failing to stop for police, driving with no insurance and driving while disqualified, at Hastings on the same date. He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and to driving with no insurance on Bexhill Road, St Leonards, on August 28. He was sentenced to an 18 month detention and training order and banned from driving for 27 months.
