‘Majority in Mid Sussex respecting covid rules’ says police inspector

And despite the warm weather, the majority of people respected the regulations, Mid Sussex Prevention Inspector Darren Taylor said.

“Very few people were asked to leave areas across the district over the weekend,” he told the Middy.

“Of course the warm weather saw more people out but they were fine and were really engaging with the team.”

Sussex Police has stepped up its response to the pandemic.

It has taken on 16 PCSO apprentices – with three deployed in Mid Sussex.

The new officers were deployed a few weeks early in January to help support the force’s effort to protect the NHS and save lives.

They include PCSO Sophie Mamoany, based in Haywards Heath. She and the two other PCSOs have been tackling anti-social behaviour at Clair Hall which is currently being used as a vaccination site.

In response to complaints from volunteers at the hall about a large group of young people, aged 14 to 17, regularly harassing them, the PCSOs undertook daily patrols and helped accompany the young people home, informing their parents and warning them of fines.

NHS partners at the vaccine centre have now reported a significant decrease in anti-social behaviour and thanked the Neighbourhood Policing Team.
