Man, 27, pleads guilty to causing death by dangerous driving after A27 crash

A man charged with causing death by dangerous driving on the A27 at Fontwell has pleaded guilty, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Ruan Soares, of Bursledon Close, Bognor Regis, also admitted a charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, after the crash on September 28, 2019, the CPS said.

The 27-year-old appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court last Friday (February 12).

After Soares pleaded guilty to both charges, the case was adjourned to a pre-sentencing report hearing at the crown court on March 26.

Sussex Police said Soares was driving a white Seat Leon which collided with a tree on the A27 eastbound, between Fontwell and Tangmere, around 11.30pm.

Following the crash in 2019, a police spokesperson said: "The driver and a passenger suffered serious injuries and were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

"A second passenger of the vehicle suffered critical injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene."
