Man appears in court over alleged Lewes assaults

A man who allegedly attempted to assault a woman in Lewes is to appear at Brighton magistrates court today (September 14).

Robert Bumpstead, 38 of Avards Close, Hawkhurst, Kent, was due in court at 10am, charged with two attempts to cause grievous bodily harm to a 38-year-old woman who is known to him.

One charge relates to an incident between August 1 and 31, and the other to an incident at around 1.30am on Sunday (September 13) while staying at the White Hart Hotel, High Street, Lewes.

Bumpstead is currently being held in police custody.
