Man arrested after head-butting a police car

A MAN has been arrested for affray after head-butting the windscreen of a police car and attacking it with a snooker cue yesterday (Sunday February 19).

Sussex Police say the 29-year-old man, described as local, was seen acting aggressively in a Pulborough street at around 2.20pm.

A spokesperson for the force said: “When police arrived he attacked the police car with a snooker cue knocking off the wing mirrors and causing extensive damage to the bodywork as well as head butting and cracking the windscreen.

“Officers were able to subdue the man by using captor spray and he was arrested and is currently in custody.”

PC David Quayle added: “We had been called because the man seemed in distress. We did what we could to contain the situation and are relieved that no one was injured although the damage to the police car was extensive.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who saw or spoke to the man to contact us on 101 or via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 0850 of 19 February.”
