A man has been arrested in connection with a crash in Portslade, police have said.

Emergency services were called to a single-vehicle crash on the westbound Old Shoreham Road, close to the junction with Romany Close, at about 2.45pm on Wednesday (November 16) .

Police said a blue Vauxhall Corsa had left the road and was in collision with a wooden fence post.

The car then continued down the grass bank towards Victoria Recreation Ground, where it collided with a tree.

The passenger, an 18-year-old woman from Lancing, and the driver, a 27-year-old man also from Lancing, were taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious injuries. They have both since been discharged.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened – in particular anyone who has any dash cam footage of the Corsa being driven in the moments before the collision – to get in touch.

Anyone with any information is asked to report it online here, quoting Operation Miramar.

A 27-year-old man from Lancing, arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent, has been bailed until December 16 pending further enquiries.
