Man arrested on suspicion of rape in Horsham

A man has been arrested on suspicion of the rape of a 22-year-old woman in Horsham town centre.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said the man, 19, from Horsham, was arrested on Wednesday (August 26). He was interviewed and released on police bail until October 20 while enquiries continued.

Detective Sergeant Jon Robeson said; “We are grateful for the information so far received from the public but we still seek any more witnesses.”

He said a man and a woman were walking from walking from a town centre bar along East Street and down The Causeway past St Marys Church in the early hours of Sunday (August 16). She was attacked in a footpath which went off to the left.

He said: “In particular we would like to speak to a group of men who we believe spoke to the woman after she was assaulted.

“Please contact Sussex Police on [email protected] or call 101, quoting serial 368 of 16/08. You can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Sussex Police has not linking this incident to any other offences in the Horsham area.
