Man arrested over theft of Sidlesham animal rescue van

A man has been arrested following the theft of a van from the Sidlesham Animal Rescue Centre on Sunday.

The 19-year-old man, of no fixed address, has been arrested on suspicion of five offences, according to police, who have not named him.

The alleged offences are taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent; uninsured driving; failing to stop after an accident; driving without a licence; going equipped for theft. He has been bailed until April 25.

Police were alerted when a transit van crashed into two parked cars in High Street, Upper Beeding at 7.30am on Sunday.

According to police, the driver spoke to a local resident, but then walked away.

A man matching his description was spotted by officers a short time later walking along the A2037 and was arrested.
