Bela Orosz, 62, of Capel Road, Rusper, pleaded guilty to drink-driving when he appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (June 16).

A spokesman for Sussex Police said he was banned from driving for 15 months, fined £150 and ordered to pay £235 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Orosz first tried to drive his Volkswagen Golf the wrong way onto the slip road off the A23 at Hickstead but then realised his mistake and pulled over at about 10am on June 2.

Instead he approached a nearby police patrol car and asked how to get to Horsham.

The 62-year-old was slurring his words and did not seem to be able to understand the basic directions so he was breathalysed and found to be over the limit.
