PC Glen McArthur from Sussex Roads Police said he was driving along the A27 when they spotted a motorcyclist speeding on the A27 in Lancing on Sunday night (November 29).

When stopped, PC McArthur said the man claimed to be French, even putting on an accent, and the bike had French licence plates.

But after checking the bike, it showed it was UK registered, and the rider had an expired licence and no insurance, PC McArthur said.

He said on Twitter: "This little tinker thought he'd run around on French plates to avoid insurance, licence etc etc. His fake accent was somewhat comical! Au Reviour licence."

The driver's exploits have garnered national attention, with Radio 2 presenter Jeremy Vine commenting on what happened on his lunchtime show.
