Operation Tinsel begins in Bognor Regis

Operation Tinsel is being held by the police around Bognor Regis shops.

The high-profile Christmas campaign is aimed at combating offences of theft in town centres and retail parks.

Police community support officer Michelle Davies said high-visibility patrols would take place in the next month.

“The operation will be aimed at working closely with the local community in reducing the incidents of shoplifting or theft, while providing a visible uniformed presence in the town-centre areas,” she said.

The police have also issued crime-prevention advice to ensure individuals and their belongings are safe.

The tips include making sure bags are not left over the back of chairs in pubs and restaurants and other venues, keeping wallets and purses close to make it more difficult for the pickpocket and keeping large amounts of cash hidden when paying for goods.

Cash machines should also be shunned if a person is loitering.
