Police appeal after village homes burgled

Sussex Police are investigating 15 burglaries in villages around Haywards Heath including Handcross and Warninglid during September.

Most happened between 10am and 1pm during mid week, but any future offences could occur on other days of the week so ocupiers should always be alert.

The homes have been entered through the rear and the offenders have then searched the property stealing mainly jewellery and cash.

Police are appealing for public help.

Sergeant Rachel Mundy said; “Please call us about any activity you consider to be suspicious, any cold callers you do not feel comfortable with, and any snippets of information you have heard which may be of use. If you have seen people acting furtively then call 101, but if you see a crime in action then call 999 immediately.

“There are simple things that you can do to help prevent a home being targeted, such as:

Making sure your home is secure and doors and any gates are locked.

Setting any house alarm.

Using security lights outside the house.

Considering CCTV, This is not necessarily an expensive option and units can be purchased for under £100

Make your house appear occupied.
