Police appeal for witnesses to violent confrontation

The altercation broke out outside the Sainsbury supermarket in High Street, Littlehampton, at around 3pm on Wednesday (March 8), according to police.

A police spokesman said no one was hurt.

Detective Sergeant Colin O’Hare, of Sussex Police, said: “We’d like to speak to the people concerned and thank them for their actions. We’d also like to talk to anyone else who may have seen what happened.”

Police said Jonathan White, 29, unemployed, of Arundel Road, Littlehampton, appeared before Crawley magistrates on Thursday (March 9) charged with possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, namely a kitchen knife, and Section 18 attempted wounding with intent.

No pleas were taken and he was remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on Thursday, April 6, according to police.
