Police appeal for witnesses to violent confrontation

Police would like to speak to the people who stepped in to stop a violent confrontation in Littlehampton last week.

The altercation broke out outside the Sainsbury supermarket in High Street, Littlehampton, at around 3pm on Wednesday (March 8), according to police.

A police spokesman said no one was hurt.

Detective Sergeant Colin O’Hare, of Sussex Police, said: “We’d like to speak to the people concerned and thank them for their actions. We’d also like to talk to anyone else who may have seen what happened.”

They are asked to email [email protected], send details online, or phone 101, quoting serial 807 of 08/03.

Police said Jonathan White, 29, unemployed, of Arundel Road, Littlehampton, appeared before Crawley magistrates on Thursday (March 9) charged with possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, namely a kitchen knife, and Section 18 attempted wounding with intent.

No pleas were taken and he was remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on Thursday, April 6, according to police.
