The burglary took place at an address in St Johns Road sometime between January 26 and 28, with thieves breaking into the gun safe and stealing three .22 calibre target rifles, pictured left, along with 500 rounds of ammunition, police say.

Jack Knight, 23, of Arne Close, Crawley, has been charged with burglary and is due to appear at Guildford Crown Court on March 2.

Two men from Crawley have also been arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods in relation to the same offence. A 21-year-old man has been interviewed and released on bail until March 3, pending further enquiries, while a 25-year-old man remains on bail until April 25.

PC Christopher Madeley, who is investigating the offence, said: “We have been carrying out a number of enquiries as to [the firearm’s] whereabouts prior to putting this information in the public domain and I would like to reassure the public we are doing all we can to trace them.
