Police hunt for Uckfield rugby club burglar

Police are hunting for a burglar who broke into Uckfield rugby club.

Sussex Police said at about 5am on Thursday, May 28, a man entered the grounds of Uckfield RFC in Nevill Road by climbing the main gate and using a brick to smash the glass on the pitch exit door.

A spokesman said: “He went straight upstairs to the till behind the bar, smashed the till screen with the same brick and then left with the till drawer.

“He left by running across the rugby pitch towards Michelham Road and the woods nearby.

“But the till drawer was empty as the club has been closed since March because of coronavirus.”

Police have released this CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

PC Rebecca Walter said; “If you think you know who this man is, please let us know. You can contact us online or by calling 101, quoting serial 254 of 28/05.”
