Police have identified a man they wanted to speak to in connection with an assault in Eastbourne town centre.

Officers were called on Sunday (July 5) to a report of a man being attacked outside the Wetherspoon pub in Cornfield Road, shortly after midnight.

The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment, police said.

An appeal was issued to identify a man officers wished to speak to in connection with the incident.

Sussex Police say he has since been identified and is helping police with their enquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the altercation or who may have any other information is asked to contact police online or call 101 quoting serial 280 of 05/07.
