Police investigate Hailsham rape

A TEENAGE GIRL has told police she was raped by a man in Hailsham.

The victim was walking along Ashley Gardens in Amberstone, near Hailsham, just after 12am midnight on Friday, November 25.

The man ran off along a lane, believed to be in the direction of New Road, Hellingly.

He wore a dark hooded top, with the hood up which was hiding his face, and dark coloured woollen or cotton gloves. No further details about the offender are known at this stage.

Detective Inspector Rob Morland, of East Sussex CID, said: “Extensive enquiries are being carried out in the area in an attempt to trace the man and establish the full circumstances of the incident.

“We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen a man wearing dark clothing acting suspiciously in the Amberstone area in the early hours of this morning.

“We naturally advise women to continue to take common sense precautions when out and about, and to be mindful of their surroundings, but there is no reason for us to suggest that they should change their routine activities because of isolated incidents like this.”

Anyone with information which may assist police with their enquiries is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting Operation Chevron or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
