Police probe after woman raped in Ringmer

Sussex Police said the victim was sitting at the village green at about 8pm on Tuesday (August 18), when she was approached by a man and raped.

A spokesman said: “The man made off from the scene afterwards.

“The victim was left shaken by the incident and is receiving support from specially trained officers.

“A 36-year-old man from Haywards Heath was later arrested on suspicion of rape.

“He remains in custody at this time while the investigation is ongoing.

“The man and woman are known to each other.”
