Police provide update to St Leonards stabbing investigation

A man who was arrested after a 38-year-old man was stabbed on St Leonards seafront has been released on conditional bail, police said.

The 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm after police were called to Grand Parade, St Leonards, at about 3.15pm on Monday (October 26).

A 38-year-old man was stabbed in the incident which happened near the Grand Hotel.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and is in a stable condition, according to police.

The arrested man was taken into custody shortly after the incident. Police said he has been released on conditional bail until November 22.

Detective Constable Dione Powell said: “We are treating this as an isolated incident between two people known to each other. We want to hear from anyone who may have seen the incident or the circumstances surrounding it. It happened in the middle of the afternoon on the seafront and there were members of the public in the area.”

A police cordon remained in place until Monday evening.

The air ambulance also attended but was only at the scene for approximately ten minutes.

Paramedics were called at approximately 3.15pm to reports of an assault in Grand Parade.

Ambulance crews attended the scene and one male patient was assessed and treated before being taken to hospital, the ambulance service said.
