Police released the video today (May 29), after a wallet was taken from a jacket which had been left on a chair in the Post and Telegraph pub in North Street, Brighton.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: "The man was sitting with a woman in the pub on Sunday, April 29 at about 7.20pm.

"He then took a glass of beer which had been left on a nearby table and sat down at his own table and started drinking it.

"He got up again and picked up a jacket which had also been left at that table, rummaged through the pocket and stole a wallet containing £220 cash, bank cards and a driving licence.

"He then handed the jacket to the bar staff saying he had found it."

The man is described as white, slim, aged around 40, with either very short blond hair or bald, and wearing blue jeans, a short hooded black puffer jacket and a distinctive mustard coloured flat cap.

Investigator Jools Whittaker-Jones said: "We would like to hear from anyone who recognises this man or has any information about him. The suspect even tried to act like a good citizen by handing in the jacket to the bar staff saying he had found it."
