The burglaries being investigated happened on November 21, last year, Sussex Police said, and involved thefts from outbuildings, both in Beaconsfield Road, Chelwood Gate.

Detective Constable Andy Mountford-Laker said: “We’d like to talk to him in connection with the investigation, and also to hear from anyone who may be able to tell us who he is and where he comes from.

“It may be that he lives further afield, so that someone living in Kent or Surrey may recognise him.”

In one of the burglaries a white Peugeot van was seen parked in suspicious circumstances across the driveway of a property, said police.

A pick axe was also stolen and was believed to have been used in a second incident nearby.

At this incident, a side gate was broken, a shed door was prised open and an unsuccessful attempt was made to force a garage door, causing criminal damage, confirmed police.
