People are being conned out of hundreds of pounds through puppy sale scams, Mid Sussex Police have said.

Inspector Darren Taylor said police had received reports over the weekend about families travelling to Mid Sussex to collect puppies, only to discover that the homeowner at the address had no knowledge of puppies for sale.

“Most of the victims had paid up to £500 in advance to the scammers,” he said.

“The real shame is the poor children who are so excited,” added Inspector Taylor.

“Personally I would recommend a home visit to see the puppy and meet the seller before parting with any of your hard earned money.”
