Pregnant horse struck by air pellet near Chichester

An investigation is underway after a pregnant horse was struck by an air pellet in Hambrook.

According to Sussex Police, 'thoughtless youngsters' may be responsible for the attack in fields at an equine centre, off Hambrook Hill South.

Police said the horse was found injured on Monday morning (March 29) after the incident overnight.

The horse, which is 'expecting a foal in a few days', has been treated by a vet and has recovered, police said.

Describing the act as 'very unpleasant and dangerous', PC Callie Mackinnon added: "Some young people have been seen playing in the area recently and we appeal to them and to anyone else who knows them to get in touch and meanwhile to take great care near animals.
