Ringmer man charged after burglaries in Lewes

A Ringmer man has been charged with two burglaries and seven attempted burglaries in Lewes.

Police were called to reports of a man acting suspiciously at a property in Spring Gardens at around 1.20am on Saturday (April 3).

Officers carrying out a search of the area found a man walking in nearby Lancaster Street in possession of electrical equipment and keys, according to police.

Enquires around the items led officers to Friars Walk, where it was confirmed two properties had been burgled and a number of others had signs of attempted entry.

John Paul Healey, 39, unemployed, of The Forges, Ringmer, was arrested and charged with two counts of burglary dwelling and theft, seven counts of attempted burglary dwelling with intent to steal, and one count of assault by beating of an emergency worker, police said.

He appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Monday (April 5), where he was remanded in custody to appear before the court again on May 4.
