Robertsbridge murder: Man arrested

A man has been arrested on suspicion of killing a businessman on the driveway of his own home during a botched robbery.

The 40-year-old from Ashford, Kent, was arrested early on Saturday over the death, which happened between 11pm on October 10 and 2am the next day.

He has been bailed until November 25.

Julian Gardner, 53, suffered multiple injuries after apparently disturbing people forcing their way into outbuildings at Bush Barn Farm in Robertsbridge.

He was found dead when his business partner arrived for work last Monday morning.

One theory suggests Mr Gardner died of multiple fractures and ‘compression injuries’ which suggests he was crushed between two objects, one of which have have been a car.

Mr Gardner ran a business repairing agricultural machinery.

Two burnt-out vehicles found abandoned a few miles away are being examined.

A Land Rover Defender, which belonged to Mr Gardner, was found at Cripps Corner, and a Jeep Cherokee was discovered near a pond in Sandhurst, Kent.

Mr Gardner’s 90-year-old widowed mother, Molly, was asleep in the main farmhouse when he was killed.
