Seven arrested as armed police attend Eastbourne incident

Seven people have been arrested after police were called to a fight in Eastbourne town centre today (Tuesday).

Police say officers – including armed officers and police dogs – initially responded to a report of a number of people fighting outside a house in Pevensey Road.

Officers were called to the scene at 11.13am.

A police spokesperson said those arrested, who were inside and outside the building, have been arrested on suspicion of a variety of offences including robbery, affray, possession of an offensive weapon and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The spokesperson said, “It is anticipated that police will remain at the scene for some time and have apologised to the local community for the disruption caused by their on-going operation.

“They have also asked people to bear in mind current social distancing and gathering requirements and not to visit the scene.”
