South Heighton man charged after refusing to leave illegal gathering

A South Heighton man has been charged by police after refusing to leave during a large gathering of people.

Sussex Police said Craig Taylor, 50, of Forward Close, South Heighton, has been charged with resisting arrest and failing to comply with Covid regulations by attending the gathering in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, on Saturday, February 27.

He has also been charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer.

A police spokesman said: “Officers tried to engage with the group and asked them to leave but they refused to comply with Covid regulations and resisted arrest.

“During the incident three police officers were assaulted and one officer suffered minor injuries.”

Mr Taylor has been released on bail to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on March 15.
