St Leonards builder and Hastings carpenter disqualified from driving

A builder from St Leonards and a carpenter from Hastings have been disqualified from driving after a two-week Sussex Police campaign targeting drink and drug drivers.

The campaign, which ran from June 29 to July 12, saw a total of 83 motorists arrested across the county.

Included in that total was Lucian Gagea, 28, a builder, of Charles Road, St Leonards. Police said he was arrested in Combe Valley Way, St Leonards, on July 5 and charged with driving with 91mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system.

At Hastings Magistrates’ Court on September 16, he was disqualified from driving for 23 months. He was also ordered to pay a £333 fine, £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge, Sussex Police said.

Daniel Millen, 30, a carpenter, of Devonshire Road, Hastings, was also among those arrested, police said. He was detained in Lower Park Road, Hastings, on July 10, and charged with driving while disqualified, failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis, failing to stop for police and driving with no insurance, according to a spokesman for Sussex Police.

Police said ,at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on September 24, he was disqualified from driving for 48 months. He also received a community order requiring him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

The Sussex Police operation targeting drink and drug drivers aimed to provide education and enforcement to motorists.

Of the 83 arrested, 21 have since been convicted in court. The remaining have either been charged, released under investigation or released without charge, police said.
