Sussex PCC's video log: Two new teams for Sussex Police

Two new proactive policing teams have been launched by Sussex Police following extra investment from council tax contributions this year.

The Tactical Enforcement Team (TEU) is dedicated to capturing some of the county’s most wanted, including those involved in serious violence, organised crime and county lines drug gangs. Since the launch in December of the first team in East Sussex, they have already made 105 arrests and seized thousands of pounds worth of illegal drugs, weapons and cash.

These successes have led to an additional team being launched in West Sussex division to continue to make the county a hostile environment for dangerous and persistent criminals. Read more about the TEU here.A new rural crime team, whose overall aim is to crack down on unlawful behaviour in isolated communities, has also now been implemented.

Rural crime is particularly worrying and, since the Covid-19 lock down, there have been many disturbing reports of fly-tipping and expensive equipment theft. Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC) Katy Bourne wants to reassure rural residents that these crimes will not be ignored and are being taken extremely seriously.

This team will have the specialist skills needed to investigate these crimes and prosecute offenders. Made up of two sergeants, eight constables and six police community support officers, the team will be operating out of bases at Midhurst and Heathfield.
