Sussex Police appeal for Polegate common assault victim to come forward

THE VICTIM of a common assault in a pub has been asked by police to step forward.

Police said the woman was a customer in the Treacle Mine Pub in Hailsham, Road, Polegate, at 11.30am on December 31.

The woman was walking past another customer when he suddenly lunged at her, causing her drink to spill, according to police.

PC Tina Baptista from East Sussex Response Investigation Team said: “It is believed the same man then turned on a member of staff who intervened, verbally abused her and threw a mobile chip and pin machine at her head. Fortunately, the staff member was not seriously injured.

“We would like the woman who was lunged at to please get in touch with police as a matter of urgency and any other witnesses who were in the bar at the time of the incident.”

The suspect is described as white, mid 30s, with very short dark hair, clean shaven and was wearing a navy sweatshirt, navy trousers and a fluorescent jacket. He was seen to drive off from the pub in a blue Vauxhall Corsa.
