Sussex Police have seized a vehicle abandoned in a ditch within the Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve

The Sussex Police Rural Crime Team found the abandoned vehicle on April 19. It has since been seized as evidence of an offence while Sussex Police make enquiries to establish the driver and the full set of circumstances surrounding the abandonment.

Sergeant Carlo Leon, of the Rural Crime Team said: “There are clear laws and local bylaws in place which restrict the use of motor vehicles within this site of special scientific interest and as such our working hypothesis is that this was caused by some very irresponsible off-road driving.”

“Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve is managed by RSPB and is a breeding site for shore birds including terns, plovers and oyster catchers. This habitat cannot cope with such reckless human interference and we will deal with any suspects identified robustly.” He added.

The Rural Crime Team have asked members of the public who saw or heard anything associated with the vehicle to get in touch online or via 101, quoting reference 0885 19/04/21.
