Sussex Police has asked anyone offered the chance to buy a cut-price mobile phone to get in touch

A spokesman said officers were keen to speak to anyone in the West Street area on Tuesday morning who could have seen someone acting suspiciously around the van or other vehicles.

He said: “We have been given a list of all the stolen handsets and their IMEI codes so any phones we recover will be able to be traced back to the theft easily.

“Anyone who buys one of these stolen phones should bear in mind that the handsets will be confiscated by us and they will not get their money back.”

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting serial 951 of 6 August or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
