Police are investigating a third handbag snatch in Seaford within weeks and have not ruled out the possibility that the incidents may be linked.

The latest robbery took place at about 4.30pm on Wednesday (February 19) in a twitten between the A259 Eastbourne Road and Perth Close, Seaford.

An 83-year-old woman was approached by a man as she walked along the footpath.

The thief grabbed her black leather handbag, knocking her to the ground and made off towards the A259.

The thief is described as being white, 5ft 10in, in his late teens and of slender build.

He is thought to have been wearing a dark hoodie and jeans.

Similar, previous crimes have occurred in Bramber Lane, Seaford, on Monday February 10 and Hillside Avenue, Seaford, on Thursday February 13.

Inspector Stephen Tullett said: “ Despite recent events this is an unusual crime for Seaford and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw the incident.

“If anyone finds the handbag or has other information I would ask that they phone Sussex Police on 101 or email, quoting serial 1130 of 19/2.

“Alternatively, they can call the independent charity Crimestoppers free and anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
