Travellers leave playing field in Yapton after nine days

A group of travellers, who set up camp on a playing field in Yapton last week, have now left the site after nine days.

Yapton Parish Council confirmed this morning (Wednesday, May 13) that all the vehicles had left King George V Playing Field on Main Road by 5pm yesterday evening

A spokesman said: “The parish council will now set about clearing the litter left behind by the travellers and restoring the damage to the boundary.”

Over the bank holiday weekend, a legal ‘notice to quit’ was served on the travellers, who arrived on site last Sunday evening.

On Monday, the parish council had said that its appointed bailiffs and legal representatives were taking ‘all steps possible’ to remove the travellers ‘as quickly as possible’. Read more here
