Travellers ordered to leave Stone Cross park

A group of travellers which set up an unlawful encampment in a park at Stone Cross was ordered to leave by the authorities.

Police confirmed a Section 61 notice was served on the group in Adur Park off Friday Street yesterday (Sunday) ordering them to move on and the travellers left the site later that day.

A spokesperson at Sussex Police said, “Police were made aware of a group of travellers arriving at Adur Park, Stone Cross, on Friday morning (May 7).

“Officers, in liaison with the local authority, attended the site and engaged with the group on multiple occasions.

“A Section 61 notice, requiring the group and their vehicles to leave the site, was served on Sunday (May 9). The group left the site later that day.”

A major clean-up is now underway at the park.
