Two arrested after large altercation in Worthing

Two teenagers have been arrested after reports of a large altercation in Worthing.

Police said they were called to the incident involving young adults in Goring Gap, Marine Drive, at 6.30pm on May 26.

In a statement on Tuesday (June 2), police said two teenagers have been arrested.

Police said "An 18-year-old man from Worthing was arrested on suspicion of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. He was given a simple caution.

"A 17-year-old boy from Billingshurst was arrested on suspicion of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. He has been released under investigation while enquiries are ongoing."

The arrests came hours after a man was stabbed in a separate incident in Worthing.

Police received a call from a member of the public just before 3.50pm (on May 26) to report a man being assaulted by three others in College Gardens just off Grand Avenue.

On arrival, the victim and the suspects had left the area, according to police. Offices conducted a number of lines of enquiry and located the victim who was receiving medical treatment, police said.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the incident.

Acting Sergeant Elizabeth Reschwamm said: "This is example of the sort of challenging situations our officers deal with and shows our teams working together to take action in West Sussex.

"We are continually working hard to prevent and disrupt crime and are committed to keeping our local communities safe."
