UPDATE: Security worker assault ends in arrest

The shoplifting incident in the town centre today ended in an arrest after a security worker was assaulted.

Sussex Police said: “Shortly after 12.10pm on Wednesday (6 December), police received a report of an assault in South Street, Worthing.

“A security worker from Debenhams was assaulted, causing him to fall to the ground. He was treated at the scene by paramedics but declined to be taken to hospital.

“A 23-year-old man from Lancing, arrested on suspicion of assault and theft, remains in police custody at this stage.”
