Police said they were called to reports of a van being stolen from Marline Road, St Leonards, at 1.10pm on Friday (April 24).

The van was found in nearby Church in the Wood Lane, around 40 minutes later, thanks to a tracking device fitted inside the vehicle.

An East Sussex County Council spokesman said: “Our staff and volunteers are working extremely hard to ensure food parcels reach the most vulnerable residents in the county.

“Sadly, one of the county council vehicles being used to carry out these vital deliveries was stolen from Marline Court in St Leonards at around 1pm today (Friday).

“The vehicle, fitted with a tracking device, has now been recovered, but the actions of those responsible has delayed essential items reaching those who need them the most.

“We are extremely grateful to Sussex Police for their quick response and would urge anyone with information about the incident to report it directly to Sussex Police online or by calling 101 quoting serial 663 of 24/04.”

Police said enquiries are currently ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have any other information is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting serial 663 of 24/04.
