Warning after attempted burglary in Newhaven

Police are reminding residents to stay on the alert after an attempted burglary in Newhaven.

The unsuccessful break-in happened at about 7pm on Tuesday (March 17), at a house in Chapel Street, Newhaven, Sussex Police said.

Damage was caused to the back door of the house but the the would-be thief or thieves failed to get in and made off empty-handed, the force said.

PC Michael Turner said; “Access had been gained from an alleyway that runs between Chapel Street and South Road.

“If you were in that evening and saw anything suspicious please contact us online or by calling 101, quoting serial 280 of 19/03.

“Please also stay alert for any such attempts, take care to keep your property secure, and call us on 999 if you see anything that concerns you.”
